About

Mahdi Soghi working at a laptop

I'm a researcher in Tehran. Most of my work is counting things at a scale no one can do by hand: hundreds of thousands of patents, thousands of collaborations, years of publications on a single topic.

The counting is only a way in. I want to know where a technology is in its life, who builds it with whom, and which risks a founder should worry about first. For that I use patent mining, network analysis and fuzzy decision methods that let expert judgment carry real weight.

I finished my MBA in International Business at the University of Tehran in 2025 and now work there as a teaching assistant. I co-founded WeDoAll in 2023, I've edited video since 2019, and I photograph the sky. The backgrounds on this page are my photos, and there are more on Unsplash.

Patents as a map

Reading patents in bulk shows which technologies cluster together and how mature each one is. I've done it for the Internet of Things, educational technology, retail, and the circular economy.

Who builds with whom

Collaboration networks show which organizations sit at the center and which ones connect the rest. In retail patents, IBM, Target Brands and Procter & Gamble came out on top.

Judgment under uncertainty

Fuzzy Delphi, best-worst and cognitive mapping turn expert opinion into ranked priorities. One study narrowed 162 startup internationalization challenges to 47, then ranked them.

Numbers above come from the Computing, IEEE Access (retail) and Journal of Enterprising Communities papers.

Papers

Eight papers and one preprint, with 75 citations on Google Scholar so far. Open a row for the summary.
